Article marketing is the best traffic-generating tool these days and you can use it to get ahead of your competitors. Here's how you can do that:

1. Make your articles more informative and more useful. You would want online users to see your articles as the best there is in the World Wide Web. So, make sure that they are loaded with enough information that can help your readers better understand your topic. Your readers must feel empowered or well-informed the moment they finished reading your articles.

2. Make your articles easy on the eyes. Based on research, online users usually don't spend too much time reading articles online. If they are presented with paragraph-form articles that do not contain page breaks or several white blank spaces, they are most likely to find other articles that are scannable. You don't want this to happen as this could mean losing the business of your potential clients. So, ensure that your articles are easy to skim through, short, and to the point.

3. Solve a problem. Your articles are most likely to generate more attention online if you load them up with solutions to the most pressing issues being faced by your potential clients. As you know, people in general simply love getting information that can help them improve the quality of their lives. So, before you tap on your key board, get to know the problems that bother your readers and make sure that you'll address them on your content.

4. Make your articles easy to understand. It can be truly frustrating when you can't seem to grasp the point that other people are trying to get across. Don't leave your readers frustrated by making sure that your articles are easy to understand. As much as possible, use the simplest terms that these people can easily identify with. It would help if you can keep your sentences and your paragraphs shorter to avoid unnecessary confusion among your readers.

This is kind of a rant, but it's meant to help you with your articles. And no, I am not a Mrs. Wombat (thank you Paul Myers) but there ARE places where you really DO want to have proper grammar. One of those places is when you're writing articles. This article will explain to you why this is important, as opposed to writing sales copy, and give you some examples of what NOT to do. I hope you find it helpful.

The reason grammar is important when writing articles is because of the people who are reading your articles. See, when they're reading what you've written on a subject, they're doing so because they consider you an authority on the subject. If they find that the article is hard to read because there are grammatical mistakes, this is going to take away from your authority status. In turn, this will render your articles less effective because ultimately, prospects won't finish reading them and in turn won't click on the links in your resource box. This is why proper grammar is very important.

Okay, so what are some of the things that you want to watch out for? Well, one of the most common problems is knowing which form of a word to use. Let's take for example, there, their and they're. They all mean different things and yet so many people use them in the wrong places.

There specifies location. For example. The book is over there. That states that the book is at a specific location. You wouldn't say "the book is over their." Now, this isn't a common problem. Most people know when to use the word there. It's their and they're that they have problems with.

Their specifies ownership. It's their problem, meaning that the problem is that group of persons. You wouldn't say "it's there problem."

But the biggest problem is the word they're. This is actually a contraction for the words they are. I can't even begin to tell you how many people screw this up and instead either use their or there. For example, "their not going to understand." It should be, "they're not going to understand." If you mean they are, just use the words they are in place of they're. If if fits, they're is what you want to use.

These are just a few examples but the point is, you want to watch your grammar when writing articles, especially if you want to keep your credibility intact.

People that are serious about getting free targeted traffic to their websites may have considered using article marketing as part of their strategies. However, a lot of these people don't write a thing because they think that it will be hard to put something down on paper. Think again!

Article writing is often considered a numbers game, the more articles you write the more likely it is that you will receive traffic to your website. Writing your first article is most probably the most difficult part of article writing. Sitting down for the first time in front of your computer with a blank Word document on the screen is very daunting. I remember the first time I wrote an article, I sat for about 10 minutes looking at a blank screen!

The key to getting that first article out of your head and on to the computer comes down to knowing what you are writing about. It is good practice to do some research into what you intend to write. Have a browse around on the internet at different websites that cover your topic. Have a look at other people's articles, but the most important piece of advice that I could ever give you is, don't under any circumstances copy anybody else's work, this could get you banned from the article directory that you are submitting to.

While you are researching, make notes of any important issues that you think you should cover in your article. By having a load of notes available, should you get a mental block, you can always refer to them and get some inspiration.

Something you should consider reading before you start to write your article is the Terms of Service and Submission Guidelines at the article directory that you will be submitting your article to. If you fail to follow the guidelines then you may find that your article will be declined and you will have to rewrite it to be accepted. It is better to find out what is and isn't allowed before you spend your time writing.

Once you have written you article, check your spelling and grammar as this will often let a writer down. Remember you want to be considered a respected expert on the topic that you intend to write about and having a lot of spelling and grammatical mistakes only puts people off clicking on your hyperlinks.

When you have finished your first article, give yourself a big pat on the back, the next time you write an article, I promise it will be a lot easier than the first. Writing is a craft and you will get better and find it easier the more you write.

One of the best ways to promote your website or blog is through article marketing. Learning to write articles quickly is a skill you have to master to accomplish this.

Many website owners make article writing a lot more complicated than it has to be. When writing for websites, remember first of all that people online are scanning web pages, not reading every word, so there is no need to spend hours making every word perfect.

Your content isn't going to be totally unique, no matter what you write about. Every topic you can think about has already been written about by someone else. Think about it - every newsworthy event is covered by CNN, NBC, ABC, etc. Every network and every newspaper are all covering the exact same event or topic, just in different words.

The fact is, there are no new topics. Your job is to take what's already been written and improve on it by injecting your own comments and personality.

One way to do research quickly is by inputting the topic you want to write about into a search engine. Choose three or four matches and read these articles thoroughly, taking notes.

Or, other places for quick research include article directories, forums and Yahoo! Answers. By reading what people are asking in Yahoo! Answers, you will learn what information people are looking for.

Amazon.com provides some great tools for quick research. By choosing a few top-selling books on a given topic, you can research quickly by browsing a book's table of contents, the back cover of the book and even an excerpt.

Once you have taken sufficient notes, it's time to put your article together. Write an outline of the important points you want to make in your article. Then write the article without looking back at the other articles. This is nothing more than the same work you did in high school writing book reports. Most of us have written quite a few book reports in our lifetime, and in those days many of us put ourselves through the unnecessary stress of cutting it too close to deadlines. That means we already know how to write and research quickly!

Basically, we need to decide what we're going to accomplish and when. If we intend to write an article a day, then we have to stay glued to our computer until we complete that task. If we want to get it done in half an hour or less, this is another goal to work toward. Practice will definitely lead to improvement.

1. Break your article into steps, and write those first. If you get caught up into the details before your thoughts get flowing, you will run out of gas soon, and run down a dead end road. You will end up taking a direction that's hard to get back on track towards your original intent. Listing your categories first is like building your highway with road signs, and let your writing naturally steer towards the next thought, because you can see the exit sign coming, and get in that lane making a smooth transition.

2. Now start with the easiest group. The goal is to get it out of the oven while it's warm, while the thoughts are fresh. Don't worry about your spelling, you can edit it later. Write it out with a pen if you type slow, because your job is to get a point across, if you're "keyboard challenged", don't let your creative juices dry up while you're learning to type.

I sometimes use a small recorder to dictate into, and play it back for typing later. There's even software that will type as you talk, which will make your writing sound more personal since you're letting your personality come out. If you get an idea flash that goes with another step, quickly write a few words about it to not forget it, but get right back to your current flow. If you get stuck, move on to another step so the article isn't going to take longer and make it a struggle, enjoy your creative writing.

3. Limit your words to about 100 per step. With more, your step can get lost and make it difficult to remember, and you can stray away from what the step is really about. If your reader can remember the step, you will be remembered as a worthy teacher, and have a following.

Break the step up into small paragraphs. A page will look easier to read, causing the reader to feel more like finishing the reading now instead of saving it for when they have more time, and then forgetting about it. The article actually reads easier without having the reader get lost and
reading a line twice.

It's your job to get your point across, not your readers job to figure it out. You're the one leading the reader with your thoughts. You know what you're trying to get across, sometimes simpler is better.

4. Develop a title after you've written the article. Don't get stuck trying to come up with a killer title at first. Just like most books or movies, they wait until the story develops character, and the title will come naturally. You will limit yourself to a box built by the title causing writers block.

You can develop a title that encompasses the whole article which allows readers to remember longer. Don't fall in love with a title that you can't change. You're title is a headline. The headline must match your article. A headline can turn away a reader as easy as pull them in. It's the most important part of your article, so don't rush it.

5. Add some humor. Your flow becomes more natural when you aren't straining to think. You can get someone to remember things easier when they're relaxed. You've remembered TV commercials longer when you laughed. When you can jar someone into a reaction, they have a natural tendency to want to remember what woke them up. When was the last time you saw the Budweiser frogs, but I bet you still remember them.

In this article I would like to go over some advanced methods for writing articles faster. one of the biggest problems with succeeding with article marketing is that it is very time intensive. So one of the major problems is that you do not write enough articles to actually succeed with this method.

I would like to summarize some methods that you can use to write your articles much faster.

1) Organize all your ideas

Often when we are thinking during the day we will come up with very creative ideas for articles. However, we may put off recording those ideas because we are busy with something else. Then when we start writing articles again we may suddenly discover that we cannot remember those
great ideas that we thought of earlier. So then we have to start from scratch again trying to come up with new and original ideas. I suggest that you start using an electronic system of recording and tracking your ideas as this will save you so much time in the long run.

2) How to overcome writer's block

One of the biggest problems that you will start experiencing when you are writing articles is that you will experience writer's block when you are writing. You may have written two or three good quality articles then all of the sudden you may run out of ideas or your creative juices may stop flowing and you struggle to continue to write again. The best way of overcoming this is to take a break even if it is only 10 minutes. If you are in a quiet area put on some loud music or alternatively if you have the television on then turn it off for some silence. By exposing yourself to a different environment you will help to alleviate this problem. You can also search in other
categories of the article directories to gain new ideas to write about. Also do a search on Google for topics that interest you to find new ideas.

3) Write multiple sets of articles

If you have a very long article, say for example it is about one and a half thousand words in length you can break this into different parts. So by calling each different title part 1, part 2 etc... you will have a few shorter articles that are much easier for your reader to read focusing on the same topic.

Article Writing - Can You be Penalized for Having Duplicate Content?

A topic of hot debate these days is whether or not having duplicate content on the World Wide Web can get you penalized by the search engines? And if so, how can you avoid being penalized?

What is duplicate content?

First of all, there is no precise explanation of duplicate content and it is not definitely clear that there is a penalty for having duplicate content. However, it is believed that using the same content repeatedly in large blocks, such as articles or blog posts, could get you a penalty with some search engines like Google.

Why do search engines care if you are using duplicate content?

How search engines work and how they earn their income are based on two things:

1. When a visitor does a search, do they get the results they are looking for?

2. Do the search engines and advertisers make a good income?

If for instance, you were to write an article about "Web Design Tips." You then submit it to article directories, after a couple of weeks it gets published on over 200 different websites.

Someone goes to google, does a search for "Web Design Tips" and there are over 200 results. At first glance, that looks great for the visitor because they can choose from a variety of results. However, an ugly problem is soon going to present itself because each website contains the exact same article.

Now, do you honestly think that this person is going to be impressed with what google produces for results if all the articles are the same, but just on different websites?

NO, they are going to be very disappointed in Google and likely complain or stop using Google altogether. Then advertisers on Google are going to make less money and so will stop advertising. Google then makes less and lo and behold, they have some pretty serious problems.

Clearly, this is why search engines do not like to display articles having duplicate content for a keyword search. So they will filter out as much duplicate content as possible, meaning your website may not be displayed but someone else's will, even though the content is the same.

Most people feel that the original content should be given precedence. However, search engines are not always able to determine the original content from the duplicate, at least not every time.

The best they can do is try and establish where the content was first published or which website has the most authority, etc.

So, if you submit the same article that you have on your site to 50 other websites that are more established, it may look like your site has duplicate content, and not the other way around.

Avoiding duplicate content penalties if there is one?

Write articles specifically for your website and then change it significantly before you submit the article to article directories. Then, if your articles are later published on other websites, they will link to your site, and your site will appear to be the authority site.

If your website has the same theme and the article directories link to you with keyword-rich anchor text, the incoming links suggest to the search engines that your site is the authority on that theme.

Likewise, if you syndicate your article, only syndicate the description and title paragraphs, not the whole article. In this way, your site will have most of the content on the topic, once again making your site the authority.

So you see, it is not a question of whether you could get a penalty for having duplicate content or not. The search engines are required to filter out duplicate content so that people are presented with the best results possible and advertising revenue is maintained.

Benefits - Benefits are a must have in your article title. It's so easy to include benefits that it's a shame so many writers don't do it. In the article title we are using for an example here, I let the reader know there are seven benefits inside the article. Simple as that.

Keywords - It's also fairly easy to use your keywords again in your article title. This is one of the ways in which writing online articles is different from writing any other kind of article. Online, the longer the title the better. Longer titles give the search engines more words to find and allows you to use your keywords again in your article title.

Use Your Pages For Article Ideas

If you have a large website, you probably have a treasure trove of useful information and ideas for articles. Start going through it page by page. If the page hasn't already been used to create an article, start rewriting it into one. Even better, read the page over once, close it, and then write a article from scratch on the topic. You'll find that you have gained new insight since you first wrote that page, so why not share that with others.

Take part of a page and expand on it. For example, suppose you have a site on car care, and you have a page called "Ten Ways To Clean Car Upholstery." Choose the best of the ten. Now write a fuller explanation of it and title the article "The Best Way To Clean Car Upholstery."

Use Your Daily Conversations

We are all "experts" about different things. Chances are you have a web site about some topic of interest to you, and you talk about that topic. What things do you say that catch the attention of your friends? What do you friends ask you about?

Suppose you know about computers, and you have a web site about them. Think about what things you have told your friends that they seemed surprised to learn. Then start writing them down. The resulting article might be titled, "Your Computer - Six Things You Didn't Know."

Find Article Ideas On Other Sites

Go check out what the competition is doing. You can't copy what you see, but you sure can get ideas. Start at a search engine and search any keywords you are targeting or might want to target. Look at the sites that show up in the results, starting with the primary pages linked to from the home page.

If, for example, you have a web site about hunting, search "hunting," "firearms," "guns," "deer hunting tips," and more. Then find topics that you haven't covered among the pages of those other sites. You might disagree with some of what you find, or think it is incomplete. Great! Disagree or complete it in your own words - there's an article.

Are there other ways to have new ideas? You bet! But why not get busy with these three? If you search every page of your web sites for inspiration, make a note of every conversation you have, and browse the pages of your competition, you'll have all the article ideas you need.
